Jonesboro Boy Attacked by Three Dogs

A four-year-old boy was recovering at Children's Hospital of Atlanta overnight after being mauled by three dogs in Jonesboro Thursday evening. The boy was in his front yard when he was attacked by a pit bull and two German shepherds. A neighbor helped pull the dogs off the boy, who suffered non-life threatening injuries. The dogs have been captured by animal control.

According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, children under 9 years of age are most likely to suffer wounds to the head and face in dog attacks. These wounds almost always cause scarring to the face. Although the appearance of scars can be improved through expensive surgical procedures, scars can not be completely removed. That means that children who suffer dog bite injuries will likely have a permanent reminder of the attack. Victims of animal attacks deserve compensation for the emotional trauma that accompanies the permanent disfigurement of a dog bite injury.
