School Bus Driver May Have Been Negligent in Crash

Police may file charges against the driver of a school bus that was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer in Cherokee County this week. The crash occurred on Highway 369 at around 8 a.m. Tuesday, when substitute bus driver Lisa Spince turned in front of a large truck while carrying students to Free Home Elementary. Police say the truck driver was unable to avoid the crash. Six of the students on board the bus suffered minor injuries. Spince and the truck driver were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Fortunately in this case, no children were seriously injured in the collision.

Bus drivers are required to exercise the utmost degree of care when transporting students to and from school. Bus driver negligence, however, often causes serious injuries and death to students on board the bus at the time of the crash. There are many different ways in which a driver may be negligent, including failing to yield the right of way, fatigue, distracted driving, or speeding, to name only a few. When a bus driver's negligence causes injury to a student, the school district will typically be held liable for the injury.
